Introduction to my Trading Blog

Hopefully this blog will prove to be useful for the majority of readers, none more so than myself, as it aims to structure my trading ideas, experiences and challenges and convert them into useful trading strategies and ideas for both myself and any readers. I’ll try to be a little more light-hearted than most trading or stock blogs and press out there (it’s unlikely I’ll cross over into funny though) as there will always be more knowledgeable people out there, but hopefully the ideas presented here will be more enjoyable to read.

I’ve traded since 2008, starting in Australian equities, and have more recently branched out into global FICC markets. I’ve returned approximately 8%, 17% and 10% for the 08/09, 09/10 and 10/11 financial years respectively, and whilst this may only amount to a student’s allowance, I am hoping that a continuation of these returns (with the help of compound interest) will see me successfully retiring from my very large hedge fund. You have to start somewhere anyway!

I begin trading at an investment bank in 2012 and as such I have created two blogs. This one aims to appeal to the more experienced investor/trader and focus more upon my trading strategies, which are currently based around 3 separate quantitative trading models and my own broader macro views. These cover major forex pairs, energy and metals, major indices and Australian equities, however feel free to persuade me to delve further into other markets. The other one (see link through my profile) focuses on those with less experience and will focus more upon fundamentals of trading and investing, as well as how I would begin my financial ‘career’ if I could start over. I would always appreciate any feedback/criticisms, accuracy/depth based or otherwise, and particularly any events/topics that you feel warrant discussion.

If you gain some more trading strategies, avoid the same mistakes I make and the posts are enjoyable to then I think this blog will have achieved its goal.

All the best, David
